Christine Courtney studied singing with Frank Capper and later with Bernard Dickinson at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. She is a graduate of Queens University Belfast having gained her degree in Music and Philosophy as a mature student during which time she sang the role of Dido in Dido and Aeneus in the Belfast Festival at Queens in 1984.
Christine sang with Castleward Opera over many years both in the chorus and in many leading roles including Venus in Orpheus in the Underworld, Prince Orlofsky in Die Fledermaus, Helene’s maid in La Belle Helene, Bianca/Gabriellain La Rondine and Annina in La Traviata. She also sang the role of Marcellina in TheMarriage of Figaro under thebaton of the late great Havelock Nelson. In 2004 she sang the leading role of Lady Billows in Britten’s ‘Albert Herring’ – both during ‘The Season’ at Castleward and then for a ‘revival tour’ of the successful production in various venues throughout Northern Ireland.
Christine continues to sing throughout the Province on a wide variety of platforms – as a semi professional soloist, or within the Opera Group ‘Intermezzo’ (with Nuala Murray and David Delargy) on various occasions - from Corporate Dinners to Charity Fundraisers. She also performs agency work with Amadeus music/Sacred Services.
