The first performance of a series of Bach Cantata's is on Sunday 19 October, at the newly refurbished St Thomas's Church on Eglantine Avenue. There is a rehearsal at 4.30pm to run through BWV 98 (Was Gott tut, das ist wohlgetan) and then take a look at BWV 140. which is the next scheduled cantata. There will be a half hour break for tea and biscuits before the service at 7pm, when BWV 98 will be performed in full. In November, the group will be performing BWV 140. Instrumentalists should bring a music stand, and singers should dress informally but respectable.
We are happy for anyone to come along to the rehearsal and we will try to have suitable parts for everyone we know is coming, but for the performance the forces may have to be adjusted to be closer to Bach's intentions (no clarinets for instance!) Please let us know if you are available and willing to perform on the 19th, so that we can establish the gaps that need to be filled. (At the moment we are particularly looking for tenors and oboes, as well as a few more strings if you know of anyone likely to be interested).
You can download your own copy of the vocal score of 98 at http://www.bach-cantatas.com/Scores/BWV098-V&P.pdf . If you would like to have a CD of these two cantatas to study please give me your address and we will send it out, and request a suitable contribution to our kitty at the rehearsal.
