All thanks to the sterling efforts of Paul Deegan, Turlough Gorman and Marie O'Sullivan, Tosini was recently voted onto the membership of European Voice Teachers Association as the organisation representing singing teachers for the island of Ireland. This makes Ireland the 19th country to join EVTA which includes Sweden, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Croatia, UK, Spain & many more.
This is an exciting step in the development of Tosini and provides opportunities for teachers to visit other EVTA countries to compare and contrast teaching styles and approaches but it also highlights to Europe our committment to good teaching which is quietly going on through rural Ireland.
In light of being the most westerly part of Europe and with the teaching trends leaning more and more towards musical theatre and pop - next stop, America, it is vital that Tosini holds on to the legacy of over 400 years of pedagogy in classical voice as the root basis of all good singing. It is always exciting to explore new ideas but the voice hasn't really changed and there will always be singers wanting to singing the rich repertoire of opera and classical songs and we as teachers must be ready to meet those challenges and demands.
We look forward to many cultural exchanges over the coming years and hope to welcome EVTA to Belfast in the Autumn as part of our birthday celebrations.
