Review of Workshop held on 14th November 2010 atSt Patrick’s Church Board School Belfast by Caroline Anderson, Primary SchoolTeacher in charge of school music & singer.

I attended the course as a non-professional singer.  The first part of the workshop focused on theanatomy of the abdominal muscles and the larynx itself.  This was extremely interesting and useful toknow what parts of our body actually work when we produce sounds.  Any singer should know how their voice worksjust as any other instrumentalist would!

What was particularly fascinating about this section was avideo of a singer’s larynx at work!  Thisvisualised everything that had been explained to me and helped me to imagine myown larynx at work.

The remainder of the course focused on individual singer’sown singing styles.  Linda gave them severaltips for improvements. A lot of the warm-ups and ideas I have written down andI have even used a few with my children’s choir this week.

Having seen a Speech & Language Therapist for previousvoice problems, Linda re peated a lot of what I had been told.  However, I found this reassuring to know thatboth the medical and professional voice teams were ‘singing from the samehymn sheet’ so to speak.
