Renaissance Choir seeks new Members Now!

By Marie-OSullivan on Monday 8 September 2008

The Renaissance Singers are considered to be one of Ireland’s foremost chamber choirs. Formed in 1976 by the late Ronnie Lee MBE, the choir has established a national reputation for bringing precision and passion to a broad repertoire of choral music. Their unique sound is very much in demand: during the past 31 years, the choir has accumulated an enviable list of radio and television appearances and have given a number of high-profile concerts; they have performed with a range of notable personalities from President Bill Clinton to The Chieftains. The choir’s recordings with the Ulster Orchestra—including works by Ravel, Debussy, Moeran and Fauré—were met with critical acclaim. Renaissance relish the opportunity to perform challenging music, and have recently been noted for their performances of some of the most difficult and rarely-performed choral music in the repertoire, including Jean Langlais’s Messe Solennelle and Handel’s Dixit Dominus. It’s not all hard work, though. The choir perform a broad range of repertoire, from opera to arrangements of Jazz standards. There’s something for everyone! 2008/09 engagements include concerts in: Derry Cathedral, The Waterfront Hall, St Peter’s Cathedral Belfast, Portstewart and the Culloden Hotel with Opera Ireland. Rehearsal info:  Monday Evenings during school term, 7:30-9pm  at Grosvenor Grammar School, Cameronian Dr., Belfast BT5 6AX.
